Shaun Tait all set for IPL cash bonanza

Bringing an end to his days in wilderness, Australian pacer Shaun Tait will make himself available for the cash-rich Indian Premier League's new-player auction and is likely to attract bids as high as 700,000 dollars.

Tait, who took a break from cricket this January citing mental and physical exhaustion, is now on course for an international return after a rehab under Cricket Australia's supervision.

The 25-year-old pacer, with a slinging action, has bowled just 24 balls for Australia this year but he is still expected to attract bids ranging from 511,000 dollars to 731,000 dollars.

IPL team Deccan Chargers coach Darren Lehmann said all franchises will be engaged in a bidding war to secure Tait's services for the uniqueness of his bowling.

"There's a few franchises interested in Tait. Tait has put himself in the auction so I'm sure someone will pick him up. Dale Steyn went for about 350,000 dollars, so I imagine Shaun will be in that bracket," Lehmann was quoted as saying by The Herald Sun.

Apart from a fragile mental state, Tait has also been battling shoulder, elbow and hamstring injuries and is reportedly considering a light workload to extend his career.

Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie urged Tait to remain positive about his career and focus on the shorter formats if it helps him play longer.

"Shaun is going to have to decide what he's enjoying. There has been speculation on Shaun putting his energies into one-day and Twenty20 cricket. I don't see that as a bad thing," he said.

"If he does go down that path, I just think it might give him clarity and focus without putting too much pressure on himself," he added.
