Mongia gets IPL call from the Royals
Will former India cricketer Nayan Mongia keep wickets for Rajasthan Royals team (RR) in the second edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Mongia, who retired from international cricket in 2001, has received an offer from RR to play for them this season.
The 39-year-old wicketkeeper hasn't played much cricket in last few years and is busy with his family business and cricket commentary. Mongia, however, hasn't responded to the offer as yet.
Sources close to Mongia told TOI, "He is thinking over the offer as he is busy with other commitments. He is currently engaged in cricket commentary and is also a cricket expert with some media channels."
Sources added that since Mongia has recently joined Veteran Cricket Association, he will be busy in coming days. "He will have to keep 60 days completely commitment-free to play for IPL. Hence, he is wondering whether to accept the offer or not," the source said.
When asked about the offer, Mongia said, "I won't comment on it right now."
If Mongia accepts the offer, he would be the sixth player from the city to get into IPL. At present, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Ajitesh Argal, Pinal Shah and Shatrunjay Gaekwad have signed up with IPL.
