Last World Twenty20 tickets on sale

The final round of tickets for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20, which pitches nation verse nation and brings together the world's top Twenty20 cricketers, will go on sale this Thursday, 12 March.

This final round of ticket sales includes availability for the opening match and final at Lord’s.

And details of the warm-up matches for the tournament have also been confirmed, with India and Pakistan, the finalists in the 2007 event, facing up to each other at The Oval in London on 3 June.

Commenting on the final release of tickets for the event, Tournament Director Steve Elworthy said: “We saw an unprecedented level of interest with our earlier ticket releases and I urge fans to get in early when this last round of tickets goes on sale on 12 March.”

All tournament ticket prices have been tailored to ensure a value day out for fans with 20 of the match-days including two games showcasing four international teams. This double-header format allows spectators to view two games for the price of one match-day ticket.

And reflecting on the warm-up matches, Mr Elworthy added: “In 2007, India and Pakistan played out a dramatic final which was only decided in the last over and the 2009 warm-up rematch between these two countries will no doubt be just as gripping.

“The warm-ups will also pitch fierce sporting rivals against each other with England meeting Scotland at Trent Bridge on 2 June and Australia and New Zealand also meeting at The Oval.

“The ICC World Twenty20 warm-up matches promise to be just as exciting as the tournament schedule,” he said.

The men’s warm-up matches will be held on 1-4 June at Lord’s, The Oval and Trent Bridge while the women’s matches take place on 8-9 June at Kings College and Taunton Vale in Somerset. Tickets for the warm-up matches are also available.

Beginning on 5 June 2009 and finishing on 21 June, the ICC World Twenty20 will set a sporting global precedent with the men’s and women’s tournament integrated for the first time.

The semi-final days, which are being hosted at Trent Bridge and The Oval, and the final day at Lord’s will feature the women’s match followed by the men’s. The women’s group stage will be played at Taunton.
