IPL stars set for Cape Town parade
Several streets in the Cape Town city centre will be closed this Thursday for a parade of Indian Premier League players and Bollywood stars.
The IPL is putting on the parade to herald the start of the 2009 tournament at Newlands this Saturday.
The parade will consist of 10 floats interspersed with different groups from the Cape Town Minstrels. The floats will represent each of the eight teams taking part, the IPL itself and Bollywood. The parade will run from 14:30 to 16:00.
We believe this parade is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the City of Cape Town to international audiences and to further build team awareness and loyalty among the South African public, said chairman and commissioner of the IPL Lalit Modi.
The following roads and intersections will be affected by the parade
- Keizersgracht Road between Russel Street and Sir Lowry Road;
- Darling Street from Sir Lowry Street to Adderley Street;
- Adderley Street between the intersections with Darling Street and Walter Sisulu Boulevard
- Hertzog Boulevard between Adderley Street and Oswald Pirow Street.
