Chennai make easy work of run chase

Sensational Subramaniam Badrinath (59*) and Matthew Hayden (48) guided Chennai Super Kings to a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals at De Beers Diamond Oval.

Chasing 141 runs, Super Kings cruised to victory in 18.2 overs.

Super Kings lost Murali Vijay (10) and Suresh Raina (13) after a cautious start against Rajasthan Royals.

Siddharth Trivedi dismissed opener Vijay early, when he tried to play one across the line. In-form Suresh Raina was done in by Amit Singh trying to go for the big one. Lee Carseldine took a simple catch at the point.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals lost wickets at regular intervals and managed 140/7 in 20 overs against Chennai Super Kings.

After losing opener Naman Ojha early, Rajasthan Royals never got into the rhythm and Graeme Smith remained the top scorer with 30 runs.

Graeme Smith and Swapnil Asnodkar together added 53 runs for the second wicket against Super Kings.

Muttiah Muralitharan got rid of Swapnil Asnodkar for 26 runs to break the valuable partnership. Asnodkar tried to sweep a doosra from Murali but missed and was trapped in front.

Opener Graeme Smith was rather subdued in his approach and hit 30 runs in 33 balls before being brilliantly stumped by MS Dhoni off Muttiah Muralitharan.

Ravindra Jadeja played some awesome shots over the park for his quick 27 runs in 19 balls. Jadeja's 27-run knock included three fours and a six. Suresh Raina took a stunning catch at the point off Laxmipathy Balaji to see off the unconvinced left-hander.

Dangerous Yusuf Pathan failed to improvise and Jacob Oram took a fabulous catch inches before the boundary rope off Shadab Jakati.

Royals skipper Shane Warne won the toss and decided to bat first against Chennai Super Kings in the 37th match of the IPL.

Chennai brought Jacob Oram and Murali Vijay back in place of George Bailey and sloppy Manpreet Gony. While Rajasthan Royals recalled Swapnil Asnodkar for Niraj Patel and Siddharth Trivedi replaced Munaf Patel.
