Sorry Middlesex slump to sixth defeat

Middlesex's reign at Twenty20 Cup holders effectively ended in Uxbridge as they suffered a 56-run defeat to Hampshire.

Chasing Hampshire's 181 for six at the fast-scoring West London ground, Middlesex cracked under the pressure of an asking rate of 9.1 an over to succumb for 125 and lose with six balls of the game remaining.

Only Billy Godleman offered sustained resistance, with 34 off 38 balls, as Middlesex lost a fifth successive match in the competition.

The Panthers' pursuit was as good as over by the 11th over after Hawks left-arm spinner Liam Dawson claimed three for 25, including the scalps of Nick Compton, Neil Dexter and big-hitting Tyron Henderson, who miscued to deep square leg to go for six.
