Netherlands eye World Cup upset

Jeroen Smits sees no reason why Holland cannot upset the odds in ICC World T20 and beat England, whom they face on Friday.

Especially after the Netherlands' seven-wicket win over Scotland. The Dutch recovered from a shaky start to reach their target of 129 and complete the win with three balls to spare.

A strong 105-run second-wicket partnership from Alexei Kervezee (62) and Bas Zuiderent (44)secured the win for Smits' side, who now face England in the opening match of the ICC World Twenty20 on Friday.

And with England looking far from inspired in their six-wicket win over Scotland, the Dutch stumper is backing his side to cause an upset.

"I'm sure we can spring a surprise," Smits said. "I'm looking forward to it. It's a great chance for all of us. Scotland win will have given our team a lot of confidence for Friday. I saw them play and they struggled a bit."

"We have a quality 20-over team. They have some quality players but it comes down to who is best on the day and I think we can compete and I'm sure we can do a job on Friday."

Edgar Schiferli was the pick of the Dutch bowlers as they restricted Gavin Hamilton's side to 128 off their 20 overs.

The spinner took three for 33 off his four overs and he admitted that he has his sights on repeating the feat against the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood in Friday's game at Lord's.

"A win over England would be enormous for Dutch cricket," Schiferli said.

"We do not play big countries like them a lot so I reckon a good result will finally get us some attention in the media in Holland and give the game a little extra."
