Brown sends Yorkshire to defeat

Andrew Gale's 76 was not enough to prevent Yorkshire suffering an 11-run Twenty20 Cup defeat against an Alistair Brown-inspired Nottinghamshire.

Brown fired 66 from 32 balls and was well supported by Matthew Wood (45) and Samit Patel (32) as the hosts amassed 165-4 at Trent Bridge.

Gale then hit 11 fours and a six, but were Yorkshire always behind the rate.

Ryan Sidebottom and Mark Ealham each picked up two wickets as the visitors closed on 154-8.

There was no sign of the carnage to come from Brown when Deon Kruis (2-38) bowled Notts captain Chris Read with the second ball of the match.

But the former Surrey opener smashed four sixes and five fours in a stand of 110 for the second wicket with Wood before he was bowled by Azeem Rafiq.

Some late hitting by Patel took Notts past the 160 mark, before Yorkshire started well in reply, with Gale sharing an opening stand of 42 with Rana Naved ul-Hasan.

But when Gale was caught by Brown off the bowling of Ealham, Yorkshire faded to hand Notts only their second win of this season's competition.
