Pakistan players may play in Champions League

Pakistani cricketers contracted with the Indian Premier League franchises are likely to get government's permission to participate in the Champions League Twenty20 to be held in India in October, the company representing the players has claimed.

Salman Ahmed, who heads the company Portfolio World, said that the IPL teams taking part in the Champions League have no problem fielding their Pakistani players but it all depends on clearance from the governments.

"We are hopeful the players whose franchises are in the Champions League can play in India because the IPL franchises are keen to see Pakistani participation in the next IPL season in march, 2010 as well," Ahmed said.

Pakistani players could not play in the IPL's second season after the government advised the board not to send them to India because of the tense relations between the two countries following the Mumbai terror attacks last November.

He said clearance from Pakistan government would be sought once the franchises send a formal request for the players to play in the Champions League.
