Cobras elect to field against Daredevils

Cape Cobras skipper Andrew Puttick won the toss and decided to bat/field first against Delhi Daredevils in an inconsequential super eight Champions League T20 match at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium.

Delhi Daredevils, which are already out of contention for a semi-final berth, would finally look to salvage some pride with a consolation win against Cape Cobras in this match.

Delhi's semi-final hope was dashed on Saturday after Gautam Gambhir's men suffered an eight wicket loss to Bangalore Royal Challengers in a League B Super Eight encounter.

However, the home team will have to come up with a much improved performance against a confident Cape Cobras side which has already made it to the semis of the $six million event. Cobras collected four points after registering a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Victorian Bushrangers.

Gambhir, who himself has been woefully out of form, said after his side's eight-wicket loss to Bangalore that they would look to give the Delhi fans something to cheer about. However, Gambhir could only manage to score just 18 runs from the three outings in the tournament.

Except for Virender Sehwag, none of the batting stars in the Delhi line-up has done anything worthwhile. Sri Lankan Tillakaratne Dilshan and Englishman Owais Shah have also failed to live up to their reputation.

For Cape Cobras, on the other hand, everything is falling in place as the South African side has been able to come up with all-round performance consistently in the 12-team event.

Pace duo of Monde Zondeki and Rory Kleinveldt has emerged into an ominous new-ball pair to make batsmen's life miserable, while young Jean-Paul Duminy and Vernon Philander backed the bowlers brilliantly with their superb batting performances.
