Middlesex sign Gilchrist, target Tendulkar
The Middlesex Panthers have signed Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist for the Friends Provident P20 campaign and are confident of signing Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Gilchrist, the former Australian wicketkeeper lead the Chargers to the Indian Premier League title earlier this year and will join the Panthers for the group stages of next years P20 competition.
After winning the Twenty20 Cup in 2008 the Panthers suffered a disappointing summer winning just two Twenty20 Cup games. The signing of Gilchrist who is the IPL's leading run scoring signals the Panthers intent to rebound in 2010.
Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington said: "Adam has signed for the group matches of next season's Twenty20 but has other commitments and is unable to commit beyond that at this stage.
With Gilchrist confirmed as a Panther Codrington's attentions will now turn to securing the services of Tendulkar who could form a menacing opening partnership with the Aussie.
"We have been in discussions with Sachin and his agent for a while but he has been concentrating on the one-day series against Australia and the current Test match against Sri Lanka" said Codrington.
"He has been pretty tied up so we are waiting to hear from him and hope for some news soon."
