Gayle set to miss T20 clash against Zimbabwe

After a fruitless tour of Australia West Indies skipper Chris Gayle will be rested during Sundays Twenty20 clash against Zimbabwe at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.

Gayle has been granted compassionate leave to visit his sick mother and will miss the West Indies first ever Twenty20 game against Zimbabwe.

"Chris Gayle went to Australia, and while there, his mother was ill, and he had to come back," said West Indies Cricket Board chief executive Ernest Hilaire.

"We thought, in discussion with him, that he should probably go home for a few days to see his mother, to be with her, then join the team in Guyana." He added.

Replacing Gayle as captain will wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin who was the vice-captain of the West Indies one day team that toured Australia.

"The players have left Australia, and those on the Twenty20 team are going straight to Trinidad," Hilaire said.

"I am fully supportive of Chris getting a few days off to go and see his family, be with his mother, then join the team. There is no change to the captaincy of the West Indies team as such."
