Sachin Tendulkar stars in Indians victory
Sachin Tendulkar was once again the hero for the Mumbai Indian scoring 72 to lead them to a 5 wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings at the Brabourne Stadium.
The Indians got off to a great start as Tendulkar and Shikhar Dhawan enjoyed an opening partnership which knocked off half the required runs before the Super Kings finally got a break through.
Dhawan (56) had just past his half century before he was caught by Suresh Raina to leave the Indian well placed with the score 92-1. Tendulkar continued his stay at the crease while Saurabh Tiwary (2) and Rajagopal Sathish (5) were both dismissed cheaply as the home side started to wobble.
Kieron Pollard joined Tendulkar at the crease and with the Indians starting to fall behind the required run rate the pair smashed 17 runs off Thissara Perera in the 15th over.
Despite losing Pollard (20) and Tendulkar with the finishing line in sight Dwayne Bravo held his nerve to see the Indians claim the win.
Having been put into bat the Super Kings were indebted to Suresh Raina (83) and Subramaniam Badrinath (55) who enjoyed a 3rd wicket partnership of 148 to help the visitors reach 180-2.
After a quiet first over Matthew Hayden burst into life smashing four consecutive boundaries of the bowling of Zaheer Khan to get the Super Kings of to a good start.
After smashing 16 runs from the second over Hayden (20) called for his long handled Mongoose bat obviously feeling a high score was on the cards but he was soon back in the dugout after missing judging an angled delivery from Harbhajan Singh which wrapped him on the pads.
Parthiv Patel soon (8) followed after he was bowled by the impressive Ryan McLaren to leave the visitors stuttering at 38-2 after such a good start.
Raina, together with Badrinath regained the upper hand with their brilliant 3rd wicket partnership to put the Super Kings on top. The pair came together at the start of the 5 over and slowly built their partnership before Raina picked out Dwayne Bravo in the 9th over smashing him for a huge six and a boundary to signal their intent on increasing the run rate.
Raina picked up his sixth IPL fifty with a sweetly timed single through long off as the Super Kings cruised past the 100 mark in the 12th over.
The partnership continued un troubled passing 100 before Badrinath claimed his half century bringing it up in style smashing a full delivery from Khan through the long boundary.
With danger man MS Dhoni waiting in the dugout the pair continued their excellence partnership finally reaching 180-2 to set the Indians a big run chase.
