Kings XI defeat hard to take for Chris Gayle

The Kolkata Knight Riders 8 wicket defeat against the Kings XI Punjab was a big blow according to opening batsman Chris Gayle.

The West Indian smashed a quick fire 88 which included 8 big sixes but it wasn’t enough to steer the Knight Riders to victory over the under performing Kings XI.

"Yeah, it was good to be among runs. I was really looking forward to have an innings like this. Initially, our captain was hitting it sweetly. So, I had the time to settle myself. When he departed, it was my turn," said Gayle.

"At the end, though, it was really painful. We did not think we would lose the match after making 200. But that's sport. You cannot predict anything in a T20 match," he added.

"Our bowlers did a wonderful job throughout the tournament. It was just a one-off game. We have to stay positive. There are a few matches to go. We know it will be an uphill task for us to qualify for the last four from here. It was a big loss for us. But in T20, anything's possible."

"You have to credit their batting. They had nothing to lose. Absolutely no pressure on them and they played freely. Yes, the wicket was good and the outfield was quick, too."
