Knight Riders stutter ruins Ganguly half century

Chris Gayle and Sourav Ganguly enjoyed an opening partnership of 94 before the Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a middle order stutter to set the Delhi daredevils a target of 182 to chase for victory.

The Knight Riders got off to a sensational start with Chris Gayle and Sourav Ganguly enjoying the great batting condition as the DareDevils were made to pay for some poor bowling.

Ganguly enjoyed another quick start finding the boundary on three occasions during the second over scoring 13 runs of the bowling Daniel Vettori.

With the Knight Riders off to such a good start Gayle took his time to get comfortable at the crease before exploding in the 6th over smashing two boundaries and a towering six over long on off the bowling of Amit Mishra.

The partnership had reached 94 before the DareDevils finally made a break though.

Having been dispatched for six from his first ball of the 10th over Rajat Bhatia tempted Gayle (40) with another slower ball which hit the stumps after the West Indian tried to smash it away for another six.

Ganguly (56) soon followed after he was bowled by Bhatia in the next over leaving the Knight Riders 104-2 with Brendan McCullum and Manoj Tiwary having to rebuild the Knight Riders innings.

McCullum only lasted 7 balls before he was run out having already survived one run out chance as the Knight Riders run rate started to slow down as the McCullum and Tiwary struggle to score.

Angelo Mathews joined Tiwary at the crease as the pair built an impressive partnership of 70 to help the Knight Riders reach 181-3

After the great start Ganguly and Gayle enjoyed the Knight Riders will feel disappointed they couldn’t have set the DareDevils a target nearer 200.
