Pollard cameo rescues struggerling Indians
A cameo innings of 45 from just 13 balls from Kieron Pollard rescued the Mumbai Indians helping them reach 183-4 after they had struggled on a slow turning wicket against the Delhi DareDevils.
After winning the toss and electing to bat the Indians got of to a slow start thanks to an excellent opening spell of bowling from Ashish Nehra and Pradeep Sangwan who restricted openers Chandan Madan and Sachin Tendulkar.
On a slow turning wicket the Madan and Tendulkar struggled to score as the DareDevils on conceding 22 runs from the first 3 overs as the pressure started to mount on the openers.
After edging a couple of balls through the slips Madan’s (15) luck finally ran out in the 5th over other when he top edge a deliver from Andrew McDonald through to Amit Mishra at short fine leg leaving the Indians 41-1.
The Indians continued to struggled to score as Tendulkar and new partner Saurabh Tiwary took 4 overs to build a partnership of 24 before Tendulkar (30) was caught by AB de Villiers much to the delight of Sangwan who claimed the wicket.
Tiwary and Ambati Rayudu tried to increase the run rate with a useful partnership of 39 but when Tiwary (38) was bowled by Sangwan the Indians had to rebuild once again having been reduced to 104-3.
Another small partnership of 29 was added by Rayudu and JP Duminy before Rayudu (24) was caught by AB de Villiers as another partnership failed to grow into a substantial contribution.
Pollard, who’s been quite so far during this years IPL showed some of the flair which made the Indians spend $750,000 on him during the player auction in January as he attacked the bowlers smashing Ashish Nehra, Sarabjit Ladda and McDonald for huge sixes as tried to break the DareDevils stranglehold.
Pollards cameo helped the Indians reach a total of 183-4 which the DareDevils will find tricky to chase on such a slow wicket.
