Bears start with a bang

In a rain effected game at Edgbston Neil Carter smashed his way to 42 off just 23 balls as the Bears cruised to victory.

Neil Carter smashed a quickfire 42 from 23 balls as Warwickshire opened their Twenty20 Cup campaign with a seven-wicket win over Somerset.

Carter, a tailender who opens in one-day cricket, hit five sixes as Warwickshire successfully chased down a revised target of 101 at Edgbaston with more than six overs to spare.

Somerset posted 120, with Keith Parsons (32) top scoring, but their progress was largely checked by the brilliant bowling of Brad Hogg, who recorded amazing figures of four for nine.

Australian Andrew Symonds hit an incredible 112 from just 43 deliveries at Maidstone as Kent beat Middlesex by seven wickets.

Symonds smashed 18 fours and three sixes as the Spitfires powered to victory in the 14th over of a game reduced to 18.

Chad Keegan had top-scored with 42 from 16 balls in Middlesex's 155 for seven.

Worcestershire held on to beat Gloucestershire by one run in a dramatic finish at New Road.

Stephen Adshead cracked 81 in 56 balls as Gloucestershire made a fine response to Worcestershire's 184 for nine but the home side just held on with Andy Bichel and Nadeem Malik taking two wickets each.

Bichel had a fine game, smashing 58 from 30 balls with five sixes in a partnership of 71 with top-scorer Graeme Hick, who made 73 from 52 balls.
