Modi ready for long battle to clear his name

Suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi is ready for a long drawn out battle to clear his name after the scandal that has engulfed the IPL over the last couple of weeks forced the BCCI to end his reign of control.

Modi has been mired in allegations of money laundering, improperly awarding new franchises and the most serious of all the allegations possible match fixing during the second edition of the Indian Premier League in South Africa.

Speaking via micro blogging website Twitter, Modi thanked his fans for their overwhelming support during the last few weeks.

"Thank you all for your message of support. It is really appreciated. I am still chairman of IPL. Just suspended. Wait - we have just begun," wrote Modi

He went on to say he had spent the day at the spa and enjoyed a much needed rest.

The former IPL commissioner was suspended last night by BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla via email informing Modi of the boardís decision to relieve him off his duties before todayís meeting of the IPLís governing council in Mumbai.

With the suspension hanging over him Modi appeared at the presentation ceremony and delivered what seemed like a farewell speech thanking his family for supporting him before claiming all the charges he is facing are based on innuendos and all decisions that were taken by the governing council were made together.

"We have had some off field unpleasant dramas only based on innuendo, half truths and motivated leaks from all kinds of sources," said Modi.

"I assure you all decisions have been taken jointly by the governing council. Still, as the leader of the team, if there is any flouting of rules or any other financial irregularity, I will take full responsibility," he added.
