Lions cruise to comprehensive Lords victory
The Surrey Lions cruised to a comprehensive 9 wicket victory over the Middlesex Panthers with skipper Rory Hamilton-Brown scoring an impressive 73 in a one side encounter at Lords.
Set a total of 129 for victory the visitors made light work of the run chase with Hamilton-Brown enjoying a 96 run second wicket partnership with Mark Ramprakash (36) after Steve Davies (20) was dismissed early one.
Having batted first the Panthers were restricted to a total of just 128-9.
After scoring 213 against the Glamorgan Dragons on Tuesday night the Panthers top order were blown away with only Owais Shah offering any resistantís top scoring with just 44.
Having won the toss the Panthers got off to a good start with David Warner blasting 15 from 12 deliveries before he was caught by Andrew Symonds to give Andre Nel the earlier breakthrough.
Adam Gilchrist (12) and Neil Dexter (14) soon followed to leave the home side 48-3 after 6 overs.
With the Lions gaining the momentum Symonds struck twice in the 8th over to remove David Malan (2) and Scott Newman (0) from consecutive delivers.
Gareth Berg added 15 before he was run out by Chris Schofield as the Panthers lower order wilted under the pressure imposed by the Lions.
With no support and unable to get on strike Shah watched on from the non strikers end as Tom Smith (2), Shaun Udal (0) and Tim Murtagh (6) quickly departed.
Shah added 25 more runs in a last wicket stand with Pedro Collins (1) to help the Panthers set their near neighbours a total of 129 to chase for victory.
