Park and Peterson steer Falcons to victory
The Derbyshire Falcons survived a late scare to seal a 6 wicket victory over the Worcestershire Royals to make it back to back victories to stay in contention for a place in the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals.
Chasing a total of 128 for victory the Falcons look set to record a comfortable victory thanks to Loots Bosman (34) and Wes Durston (23) who enjoyed a opening partnership of 53.
With the game slipping away from the Royals Moeen Ali came into the attack and he proved to be an effective weapon for the visitors taking 2 wickets and conceding just 14 runs from his 4 over spell.
Despite the scare Gary Park (40) and Robin Peterson (24) remained calm to see the Falcons home with just 4 balls to spare.
The Royals disappointing start to this years Friends Provident t20 continued despite the best effect of Ali (67) who scored a well deserved half century for the visitors.
Having been put into bat by Falcons skipper Greg Smith; the Royals got off to the worst possible start losing opener Phil Jacques from the very first delivery of the game which was bowled by Charl Langeveldt.
The mood inside the Royals dugout turned to despair two overs later when Sanath Jayasuriya (9) was caught by Smith to leave the visitors 14-2 after Tim Groenewald had struck.
With the lose of Jacques; Ali came to the crease to play an important role for the Royals who have only won one game in this years Friends Provident t20.
With limited support from Alexei Kervezee (17), Daryll Mitchell (3) and James Cameron (10); Ali recorded a well deserved half century coming from just 42 balls.
Having past 50 Ali increased the run rate reaching 67 before he was trapped LBW by Steffan Jones to leave the Royals 123-6.
Having picked up a wicket with his first delivery of the game Langeveldt returned to bowl the last over and claimed his second wicket of the night after he bowled Gareth Andrew (0) with his second delivery.
Ben Scott (1) joined Jack Manuel (15) at the crease for the final 4 delivers of the inning which saw the pair add another 4 runs to leave the Falcons chasing a total of only 128 ford victory.
