Panthers cruise to comfortable 13 run victory
The Middlesex Panthers recorded a comfortable 13 run victory over the Kent Spitfires at Lords to keep them in the hunt for a place in the Friends Provident t20 quarter finals.
The victory for the Panthers moves them up into the top for of the South group while the Spitfires remain rooted to the bottom of the group.
Having been set a target of 155 for victory the Spitfires got off to a good start with Martin van Jaarsveld (25) and Robert Key (42) sharing an opening stand of 54 before van Jaarsveld was dismissed by Malinga Bandara in the 6th over.
With the opening partnership broken Key quickly followed as the Spitfires middle order collapse with only Darren Stevens (23) offering any resistantís as Tom Smith (5-24) picked up 5 wickets to seal the victory.
Having won the toss the Panthers batsman enjoyed a comfortable time at the crease with David Warner (29), Adam Gilchrist (28) and Dawid Malan (41) all playing vital roles for the home team.
