Phillips hits winning runs from last delivery
Tim Phillips smashed a boundary from the final ball of the innings to claim a vital 4 wicket victory for the Essex Eagles against the Kent Spitfires at the Brit Oval.
Faced with a target of 172 for victory the Eagles got off to a great start thanks to Alistair Cook (51) and Mark Pettini (51) who shared a second wicket partnership of 59 after Ravi Bopara (26) had been bowled by Simon Cook in the 5th over.
Although Cook and Pettini weren’t able to see the Eagles home Scott Styris smashed 25 from just 13 balls to set the game up for its thrilling finish.
Having won the toss the Spitfires batted first with Darren Stevens smashing 50 from just 26 balls, with support coming from Joe Denly the Spitfires, playing a one off home game at the Brit Oval reached 171-6.
