Styris seals another stunning comeback victory
Scott Styris helped the Essex Eagles pull of another last gasp victory to keep alive their hopes of securing a home quarter final thanks to a 5 wicket victory over the Sussex Sharks.
Styris smashed 52 from just 26 deliveries including 19 runs from the penultimate over bowled by Chad Keegan to stun the home crowd at Hove.
The Kiwi all rounder smashed his 4th six of his brief innings at the start of the last over before sealing the victory with a boundary from Yasir Arafatís next delivery while skipper James Foster (0) watched on from the non strikers end.
Faced with a run chase of 186 for victory; the Eagles got off to another impressive start thanks to Aliastar Cook (63) and Ravi Bopara (39) who enjoyed an opening partnership of 83 before Bopara was dismissed by Olie Raynor in the 8th over.
The Sharks fought their way back into the game to leave the home side in charge after Cook, Mark Pettini (9) and Matt Walker (11) had been dismissed to leave the Eagles 131-4 and in trouble.
But, with Styris still at the crease the Eagles still stood a chance.
Having batted first the Sharks had reached 185-5 thanks to a fine innings from Michael Yardy who smashed 76 from just 51 balls after Marr Prior (10) and Luke Wright (8) had failed with the bat at the top of the innings.
Yardy was supported by Murray Goodwin (55) as the Sharks reached a competitive total.
