IPL Governing Council call emergency meeting

The IPL Governing Council have arranged an emergency meeting on Sunday morning in Mumbai to discuss the future participation of the Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and the Kochi franchise in next years IPL.

BCCI president Shashank Manohar called the meeting after Kochi missed Fridays deadline; set by the BCCI to submit papers clearing up a number of ownership issues.

The Governing Council will discuss the future of the three franchises during the meeting with sources indicating punishments as serve as expulsion from next years tournament will be discussed.

The three IPL franchises were served with show cause notices by the BCCI last month after doubts emerged about the ownership structure of the teams.

Since winning the Kochi franchise; a consortium of owners, including Rendezvous Sports World have failed to announce their ownership structure and with no legal entity incorporated the BCCI seem set to scrap the franchise.

Controversy had dogged the new franchise ever since March’s franchise auction after a war of words erupted between former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi and former Union minister of state for External affairs Shashi Tharoor over the ownership of Rendezvous Sports world.
