Gavaskar being lined up by Kochi franchise

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has admitted being contacted by the Kochi franchise who wants the former test player to take control of the cricketing side of the team.

Gavaskar, a former member of the IPL governing council, will wait until the BCCI board meeting in Nagpur tomorrow which will decide the future of the Kochi franchise before he makes any decision about a role with the team.

"I have been approached for taking care of their cricketing operations and there is nothing in writing. Let all their internal issues get resolved and afterwards, may be, I will take a call on that," said Gavaskar to NDTV.

"Nothing can be said further till what's happening today and tomorrow. Once BCCI takes a decision tomorrow, then one can react about the future association with the Kochi franchise. If that does not happen, I am quiet happy for what I am doing at the moment," he added.

Satyajit Gaekwad, chief executive of the troubled franchise said Gavaskar would have over all control of the cricketing side of the team after a unanimous decision by the franchises group of owners.

"So we had always thought of doing whatever we decided, and in between when it was the question of who would be advisor to us on cricketing matters, it was a unanimous decision by everyone that Gavaskar is one of the best. But then he refused to participate with us as he was a member of the governing council," said Gaekwad.
