Dravid and Ganguly not retained by franchises

Former India skippers Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly have both been told they will not be retained by their respective franchises ahead of the IPL player auction in January.

With the December 5th deadline fast approaching for teams to retain players; Dravid and Ganguly fates were revealed as the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders slashed their squads.

Although Dravid was released the Royal Challengers decided to retain Virat Kohli and Ross Taylor while the Knight Riders, who suffered three disappointing tournaments reacted by releasing their entire squad.

The decision to cut ties with their entire squad will mean the Knight Riders will go into January’s player auction with a salary cap of $9 million while the Royals Challengers will have only $5.9 million to spend on their squad.

Other player retained include Delhi Daredevils opening batsman Virender Sehwag, while the defending IPL champions, the Chennai Super Kings have retained MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Murli Vijay and South African all-rounder Albie Morkel.

The Mumbai Indians meanwhile retained Sachin Tendulkar but remain tight lipped over the future of other players including Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga.
