Nervy Wizards hold on to claim 3 wicket victory

The Canterbury Wizards held their nerve to secure a three wicket victory over the Wellington Firebirds to start their HRV Twenty20 Cup campaign with a win.

Having been set a victory target of 149 the Firebirds claimed the win thanks to ten Doeschate who scored 41 before being run out in the 18th over with victory in sight.

Despite the lose of ten Doeschate, Andrew Ellis set up a thrilling finale smashing 11 runs from just 6 balls to secure victory for the Wizards.

Michael Pollard (54) and Luke Wright (45) lead the way for the Firebirds to help the home side to reach 148-5 after winning the toss.

Dewayne Bowden (18) offered Wright support after Pollard was bowled by Ryan ten Doeschate in the 12th over but, despite the loss the Wizards remained in control.
