Stags win low scoring thriller by 3 runs

The Central Stags held on to record a thrilling 3 run victory against the Canterbury Wizards in a low scoring affair at Village Green in Christchurch.

Despite setting the Wizards a victory target of just 74 the Stags held on to keep their hopes of reaching the HRV Twenty20 Cup Final alive after the home side suffered a batting collapse.

The Wizards lost their last 6 wickets, adding just 14 runs in the process to slump to a total of just 70-9 at the end of their innings which had been reduced to 10 overs after heavy rain delayed the start of the game.

Having been put into bat the Volts suffered their own collapse but were thankful for important innings from Michael Yardy (24) and Doug Bracewell (22) who’s vital runs helped the visitors reach 73-8.
