Nicol leads the way for the Wizards

The Canterbury Wizards kept their hopes of reaching the HRV Twenty20 Cup final after a tense 5 run victory over the Wellington Firebirds at the Aorangi Oval in Timaru.

Rob Nicol lead the way with a quick fire 85 top get the innings off to a tremendous start, the opener smashed 9 fours and 4 sixes during his 48 ball innings.

Michael Papps (33), Peter Fulton (25) and Dean Brownlie all produced important contributions to help the Wizards reach 207-6.

Despite facing a daunting run chase the Firebirds got off to a fantastic start thanks to Jessie Ryder (59) and Luke Wright (64) who put on a opening partnership of 115 before Wright was dismissed by Johan van der Wath in the 8th over.

Ryder and Grant Elliott (2) soon followed as the run chase came up just short as the visitors reached 202-4.
