Steelbacks sign South African t20 skipper
The Northants Steelbacks have announced the signing of South African Twenty20 skipper Johan Botha, who will join the team for the Friends Provident t20 tournament.
The 28-year-old all-rounder will join Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas as the Steelbacks overseas players during the tournament which starts at the beginning on June.
Botha, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, has played 26 Twenty20 internationals for the Proteas taking 27 wickets.
"Nicky Boje told me what a wonderful setup there is at Northants and how great the people are. I cant wait to play there and make a contribution to the team," said Botha.
Steelbacks head Coach David Capel was delighted that the team had been successful in recruiting a quality spin bowling all-rounder for the summers tournament.
"It is well recognised the level of impact an experienced spinner can have on a t20 match, you just have to look at what Nicky Boje did for us," said Capel.
"This is the right signing for the club and Johan will be a major asset to us through his ultra competitiveness, skill sets and experience," he added.
