Hopes leads Bulls to comprehensive victory

The Speedblitz Blues hopes of hosting the KFC t20 Big Bash Preliminary Final were ended by the Queensland Bulls who cruised to a 8 wicket victory at Stadium Australia.

Having restricted the Blues to a total of just 120 the Bulls cruised to victory with James Hopes (62) leading the way with a well deserved half century.

The defeat now means the Blues will have to travel to the Bellerive Oval next Tuesday to take on the Tigers in the KFC t20 Big Bash Preliminary Final.

Faced with such a low run chase Michael Lumb and James Hopes made light work of the Blues bowling attack during a opening partnership of 76 which took the game away from the Blues.

After suffering a disappointing tournament Lumb, playing in his last game for the Bulls; signed off with a quick fire 40 from just 26 deliveries before he got a faint edge on a delivery from Moises Henriques which was caught by wicket keeper Daniel Smith in the 8th over.

Despite losing Nathan Reardon (10) soon after the Bulls cruised to victory thanks to Hopes who completed a well deserved half century.

Having won the toss the Blues got off to a disastrous which saw them lose 3 wickets inside the first 5 overs which left the home side 18-3.

The Blues got off to a shaky losing opening batsman Usman Khawaja (0) from the first delivery of the game after he was bowled by James Hopes.

David Warner (4) followed in the next over before Smith (4) was caught by wicket keeper Chris Hartley after trying to cut a delivery from Ben Feldman.

With three batsmen already back in the dugout it could have got worst for the Blues but new batsman Henriques was dropped in the gully, 3 deliveries after Smith’s dismissal.

Henriques and Phil Jaques (22) took full of advantage of the let off scoring 26 valuable runs during a 4th wicket partnership before Jaques was dismissed by Brad Ipsum who took an easy catch off his own bowling to leave the Blues 44-4 after 7.3 overs.

Having survived one let off Henriques’ time at the crease was finally brought to an end 3 overs later thanks to Feldman who ran Henriques (17) out with a direct hit from the long on boundary.

With the Blues in trouble Ben Rohrer (13) and Dominic Thornely (34) added valuable lower order runs but with wickets falling at regular intervals the Bulls restricted the home side to a total of just 120.
