Victorious India turn their attention to the IPL
With most of India still celebrating Saturday night’s world cup victory over Sri Lanka the players involved have already turned their attentions to the upcoming IPL season.
Having been teammates for the previous two months with a united goal, India’s cricketing heroes will now swap international glory for the pursuit of further glory in the IPL.
Two of India’s World Cup final heroes will be the first to face off against each other on Friday night when the Chennai Super Kings start their title defense against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Having led his country to victory over Sri Lanka, MS Dhoni will come up against teammate Gautam Gambhir, skipper of the Knight Riders when the 4th edition of the IPL gets under way on Friday night.
The pair, who both played major roles in India’s World Cup victory, will be thrown into battle at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai less then a week after celebrating India’s triumph as teammates.
Such is the demand of the modern cricketer, India’s first World Cup triumph since 1983 will be cut short as India’s top players depart to join up with their franchises ahead of Friday’s launch.
Having lead the Super Kings to the IPL and Champions League titles last year Dhoni will be looking to continue this dominance after the franchise manage to resign a number if keys players including Albie Morkel, Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina.
The Knight Riders meanwhile completely rebuilt their team around new signing Gambhir, who became the most expensive player in IPL history when he was brought for $2.4 million during the player auction in January.
