Sri Lankans called back early by cricket board

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has asked the Sri Lankan cricketers playing in this years IPL to return to Sri Lanka on May 5th in order to prepare for their tour of England.

The World Cup runners up are due to depart on Tuesday, May 10th for the tour which includes three Test matches, five ODIís and one t20 international.

"For the past two months or so they have been playing one-day and t20 cricket and it is time they switched on to playing the longer game," said Sri Lankan chairman of selectors, Duleep Mendis.

"The first half of the English summer is not going to be easy and we want the players to report for training and to concentrate on getting used to the change of playing white balls to red," he added.

The players who are likely to be affected include Tillakaratne Dilshan who is widely tipped to lead his Country after the resignation of Kumar Sangakkara after the World Cup final defeat against India.

Sangakkara (Deccan Chargers), Mahela Jayawardene (Kochi Tuskers), Suraj Randiv (Chennai Super Kings), Nuwan Kulasekara (Chennai Super Kings), Dilhara Fernando (Mumbai Indians), Lasith Mallinga (Mumbai Indians), Angelo Mathews (Pune Warriors) and Thisara Perera (Kochi Tuskers) will also be effected.
