Ryder and Yuvraj punish sorry DareDevils

Half centuries from Jessie Ryder and Yuvraj Singh helped the Pune Warriors reach 187-5 against the Delhi DareDevils to take control of the game after being out into bat.

A quick fire half century from Jessie Ryder helped the Pune Warriors reach 187-5 against the Delhi DareDevils to take control of the game thanks to a sloppy display in the field by the visitors.

The Kiwi blasted 60 runs from just 27 deliveries which included 5 fours and 5 sixes to give the unbeaten Warriors the perfect start at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.

The DareDevils fought their way back into the game but Yuvraj Singh (66) completed the innings in style dispatching Ashok Dinda for three sixes in the final to complete his own 30 ball half century to leave the DareDevils with a mammoth run chase.

The game got off to an electrifying start thanks to Jessie Ryder who smashed Venugopal Rao for two massive sixes at the end of the first over in a short lived experiment for the visitors who removed the spinner from the attack after just one over.

The action continued in the second over when Ryderís opening partner Graeme Smith was lucky not to go first ball after he edged a delivery from Dinda through to wicket keeper Naman Ojha.

Despite a huge noise Smith remained at the crease and was saved by an half-hearted appeal by Dinda who didnít seem to interested in appealing to umpire Amiesh Saheba.

Luckily for the DareDevils Smithís (12) stay at the crease didnít last much longer as the out of form opener picked out Irfan Pathan at third man two overs later much to the relief of Dinda who finally dismissed the South African.

Although the Warriors were dealt an early blow, Ryder more then made up for this by smashing 4 boundaries off the bowling of Umesh Yadav in the 6th over to help the home side race past 50 from just 32 deliveries.

Their grip on the game was strengthened by Ryderís 54 run 2nd wicket partnership with Mithun Manhas (20) which saw the Warriors reach 82-2 after Manhas was dismissed by James Hopes in the 9th over.

Ryder completed his half century soon after with another towering six this time off the bowling of Shahbaz Nadeem after being dropped by Dina at the start of the 10th over.

With the milestone reached Ryder tried to increase the run rate but he played one shot two many and was caught by Aaron Finch out of the deep backward square-leg boundary to give Nadeem the vital breakthrough.

Robin Uthappa (4) quickly followed the Kiwi back to the dugout but Warriors skipper Yuvraj Singh took centre stage with his own quick fire half century to help the home side reach 187-5.
