Tuskers seal another impressive victory

The Kochi Tuskers Kerala registered their second straight victory thanks to an impressive 7 wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings who become the 2nd high profile team to taste defeat against the IPL new boys in the space of 4 days.

Fresh from victory over the Mumbai Indians on Friday night, Brendon McCullum (47) and Parthiv Patel (34) helped the Tuskers hand the defending champions their 2nd defeat in this yearís tournament after successfully chasing down a total of 135.

Suresh Raina hit a patient half century to help the Super Kings set the Tuskers a tricky run chase after heavy rain caused an hours delay at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi.

Raina (50) and Murali Vijay (28) lead the way for the Super Kings whose progress was thwarted by the rain as the defending champions recorded a total of 131-4 from their 17 overs.

The Tuskers run chase got off to a rapid start thanks to McCullum and Mahela Jayawardene who shared an opening stand of 39 which was brought to an end by Ravichandran Ashwin in the 5th over.

Having seen his first 2 deliveries dispatched for a six and a boundary by Jayawardene (16), Ashwin struck back to remove the Tuskers skipper who edged his next delivery to Srikkanth Anirudha at short cover.

Despite the lose of Jayawardene, McCullum continued to play an attacking innings during a 2nd wicket stand of 51 with Patel which left the Tuskers needing another 45 runs from 39 balls after Ashwin struck to remove the Kiwi.

McCullum fell just 3 runs short of a well deserved half century after he was caught by Albie Morkel out on the long off boundary to bring a his swash buckling innings to an end in the 11th over.

Although Patel quickly followed, Brad Hodge (19) and Ravindra Jadeja (16) didnít show any signs of panic as they completed a 4th wicket partnership of 25 to seal the victory over the defending champions with 12 balls to spare.

Having been put into bat the Super Kings lost Michael Hussey (8) early on but Vijay and Raina fought back with a second wicket partnership of 37 before Ramesh Powar struck in the 8th over to end Vijayís (28) innings.

Raina and new partner, Subramaniam Badrinath had enough time to add another 17 runs to the total before heavy rain forced both sides of the field at the start of the 10th over with the Super Kings 65-2.

After a delay of more then an hour, play finally got back under way with both sides losing 3 overs from their innings which left the Super Kings with only 8 overs to set a competitive total.

The rain delay clearly effected Raina and Badrinathís progress as the pair struggle to find the boundary with only 2 fours scored before Badrinath (19) was trapped LBW by Raiphi Gomez in the 14th over.

Raina took the Super Kings past 100 with the first six of the day before the Tuskers made a further break through thanks to Thisara Perera who ran out Raina just 3 deliveries after completing a patient half century.

With the Super Kings innings coming towards an end MS Dhoni (14) and Albie Morkel (9) added 22 vital runs to help the Super Kings reach a competitive total which will leave the Tuskers facing a tricky run chase.
