Tuskers slip to defeat after Sehwag master class

Virender Sehwag scored a brilliant half century to help the Delhi DareDevils cruise to a comprehensive 38 run victory over the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in a must won game at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi.

Faced with a tricky run chase of 158 the Tuskers innings never really got going after the early loss of Michael Klinger (2) and Brendon McCullum (7) inside the first two overs.

Klingerís IPL debut lasted just six deliveries before he was dismissed by Morne Morkel while McCullum gave his wicket away after he charge down the wicket only to be bowled by Irfan Pathan.

Parthiv Patel (1) and Mahela Jayawardene (18) quickly followed and although Brad Hodge offered some hope with a patient 27 the Tuskers lost wickets at regular intervals as they slipped to their third straight defeat.

With the exception of Sehwag both teams struggled on a poor batting surface which played a major role in the game with its low bounce to deceive a number of batsman.

Despite this Sehwag (80) played an impressive innings which allowed the DareDevils to record a competitive total after the opener recorded his second half century of the tournament.

Sehwag smashed 8 fours and 5 sixes during an amazing 47 ball innings as he single handily took the momentum away for the home side with a display of world class batting.

Yogesh Nagar (22) and Travis Birt (20) added some valuable runs while they supported Sehwag during his time at the crease to help the DareDevils reach 157-7.

Having won the toss Sehwag decided to bat first but the DareDevils got off to poor start after Sreesanth struck twice in his first over to leave the visitors 4-2.

Taking advantage of the low bounce Sreesanth bowled David Warner (3) with his first delivery before Naman Ojha (0) was trapped LBW by a delivery which almost rolled along the ground after being bowled back of a length which totally deceived the 27 year old.

Although Sehwag seemed comfortable at the crease, new batsman Venugopal Rao (1) struggled throughout his time at the crease before he was trapped LBW by Ravindra Jadeja to end his innings after just 9 deliveries to leave the daredevils 35-3 after 6.2 overs.
