Super Kings fight back after Dravid cameo
The Chennai Super Kings restricted the Rajasthan Royals to a total of 147-6 despite Rahul Dravid scoring his first half century of the tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Dravid led the way scoring 66 runs from 51 deliveries to give the visitors the perfect start before the Super Kings fought their way back into the game to restrict the Royals.
Having scored 86 runs during the first 10 overs the Royals innings went off the rails as they lost wickets at regular intervals to leave the Super Kings with a run chase of only 148.
The visitors got off to a great start; having won the toss Shane Watson and Dravid capitalised on some pretty ordinary bowling to build an opening partnership of 86.
The pair scored 7 boundaries during the power play overs as the Super Kings were left to toil in sweltering conditions in the field as the temperatures reached 38 degrees in the shade.
Dravid, dealing almost exclusively in boundaries led the charge, scoring 49 runs, while Watson happily turned the strike over during a very productive opening stand.
Despite the loss of Watson (32) in the 11th over, Dravid completed his 5th IPL half century, his first for the Royals with a quickly taken single through mid wicket which was greeted with applause from the home fans.
With the break through made the Super Kings successfully slowed the Royals down with new batsman Ashok Menaria struggerling to get his rhythm as he scored just 2 runs before his 8 ball innings was brought to and end by Ravichandran Ashwin in the 13th over.
Johan Botha (8), Dravid, Ajinkya Rahane (4) and Ross Taylor (20) quickly followed as the Royals innings, which started off at a rapid pace almost ground to a halt with the visitors losing wickets at regular intervals.
Having got off to such a good start the Royals could only add 61 more runs during the second half of the innings which went off the rails to leave the Super Kings on top going into their run chase.
