Gayle force storm destroys Kings XI hopes

Chris Gayle launched an astonishing blitz to propel the Royal Challengers Bangalore to a total of 205-6 after the West Indian destroyed the Kings XI Punjab bowling attack with another display of big hitting.

The West Indian became the first person to score two IPL centuries after taking just 46 deliveries to record his second century for the Royal Challengers in just 4 games.

Gayle smashed 10 fours and 9 sixes during a devastating 49 delivery innings which saw the totals runs scored by the West Indies for the Royal Challengers reach 284 from after just four innings.

Virat Kohli (27) played the perfect support role during Gayle’s mammoth innings while AB de Villiers added 27 vital runs at the end of the innings to help the Royal Challengers set the Kings XI a run chase of 206.

The Royal Challengers good off to a good start thanks to Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan who shared an opening stand of 43 after being put into bat by Adam Gilchrist.

The pair got off to a quiet start scoring 17 runs from the first 18 deliveries before the game burst into life in the 4th over when Ryan Harris conceded 21 runs.

Having already bowled a maiden over Harris could only watch on as Gayle dispatched his first two deliveries for sixes before Dilshan ended the over with back to back boundaries.

Although Dilshan (16) was dismissed in the 5th over by Ryan McLaren the Royal Challengers continued to dominate the game thanks to the big hitting of Gayle.

The West Indian was at his destructive best reaching the half century mark in just 28 deliveries to put the Royal Challengers on top in a vital game for both teams.

Having reached 50 Galye stepped on the accelerator dispatching back to back sixes at the start of Kumar’s 8th over and Piyush Chawla’s 10th over before Love Abish conceded three consecutive boundaries at the end of the 11th over.

The run rate dropped slightly has Gayle reached the 90’s but the West Indian showed no signs of nerves to dispatch McLaren’s first delivery of the 14th over before completing a marvellous century with a boundary through long off.

With the game quickly disappearing out of the Kings XI’s reach Chawla struck back to end Gayles innings in the 15th over before removing Kohli two deliveries later to leave the Royal Challengers 155-3.
