Shoulder injury forces Sehwag out of IPL
Delhi DareDevils skipper Virender Sehwag will miss the last three weeks of the Indian Premier League after sustaining a shoulder injury which will require surgery.
The 32 year old opening batsman who scored a century for the DareDevils last week against the Deccan Chargers will fly to London for surgery which will leave his availability for Indians tours of the Caribbean and England in doubt.
In his absences Australian all rounder James Hopes will take over as Skipper during the DareDevils remaining three games in this year’s tournament.
The decision to undergo surgery was made after Sehwag held talks with the BCCI who advised him to miss the rest of the tournament and fly to London for surgery.
"We will miss Sehwag. But he has to undergo the surgery and that is why he will not take any further part in the IPL", said DareDevils CEO Amrit Mathur.
The Indian international has been in a rich vein of form scoring 424 runs during the DareDevils 11 group matches and although Sehwag holds the orange cap for total runs scored the DareDevils have no chance of reaching the play offs.
"He has a problem. In the last match, too he struggled. The BCCI is making the arrangements for the surgery. They are waiting for a date. If he needs the surgery we are not going to be coming in the way," added GMR Sports Pvt Ltd director PB Vanchi.
