Falcons hold on to record tense 5 run victory
The Derbyshire Falcons kept the Durham Dynamos at bay thanks to a tense five run victory at the County Ground in Derby to record their first win in this years tournament.
Martin Guptill was the Falcons hero, scoring 60 runs from just 43 deliveries which included eight boundaries and one six as the Kiwi got the home sides innings off to the perfect start.
Wayne Madsen (53) and Wes Durston added support as the home reached a total of 183-3 despite some impressive bowling from Graham Onions (29-1) and Gareth Breese (27-2).
Faced with a tricky run chase the Dynamos got off to the perfect start thanks to Phil Mustard and Gordon Muchall who shared an opening stand of 88 before Mustard (36) was dismissed by Chesney Hughes in the 11th over.
Ian Blackwell (8), Paul Collingwood (8) and Muchall (62) quickly followed as the Falcons thought their way back into the game to set up a thrilling ending.
With the tension mounting Breese (16) and David Miller (26) shared a 6th wicket stand of 25 but the pair were unable to pass the Falcons total, as the Dynamos finished the game, 178-5.
