Gladiators break four game losing streak
Ian Cockbain scored an impressive half century top help the Gloucestershire Gladiators break their four game losing streak thanks to a 46 run victory over the Surrey Lions at Archdeacon Meadow in Gloucester.
Cockbain (78) smashed six boundaries and five sixes from just 46 deliveries to help the Gladiators record a total of 168-6 after they had been put into bat by Lions skipper, Rory Hamilton-Brown.
Chris Taylor (32) and Alex Gidman (28) offered Cockbain support during his time at the crease to help the Gladiators recover after they had slipped to just 26-3 when Hamish Marshall was bowled by Jade Dernbach in the 5th over.
Faced with a tricky run chase, the Lions got off to a poor start after Hamilton-Brown (1) was bowled by Kane Williamson from just the fourth ball of the visitors innings.
Steven Davies (15) quickly followed and even though Kevin Pietersen (30), Zander de Bruyn (18) and Tom Maynard (20) all looked capable of holding the innings together, no one from the top order was able to build on their decent starts.
With the pressure mounting Muttiah Muralitharan (28-2) and Ed Young (24-2) tore through the Lions lower order as the visitors were restricted to a total of just 122 after Dernbach (4) was dismissed with the first delivery of the final over.
