Gale leads Yorkshire to easy Roses victory
Yorkshire Carnegie recorded their second Roses victory within the space of seven days after they cruised to an 11 run win against the Lancashire Lightning at Headingley.
With the rain staying away Andrew Gale powered Yorkshire to victory with an impressive half century to help the home side record a total of 178-4 after they were put into bat by the Lightning.
Adam Lyth (45) and Jonny Bairstow (32) offered valuable support for Gale, who smashed six boundaries and a six to leave the Lightning facing a victory target of 179.
Faced with a tricky run chase the Lightning started off poorly, losing Stephen Moore (9) and Tom Smith (16) inside the opening three overs as they slipped to just 27-2.
Steven Croft (24), Karl Brown (35) and Gareth Cross (30) led the visitors fight back but with wickets falling out regular intervals the Lightning were unable to mount a serious challenge despite a quick fire 38 from Jordan Clark.
With the pressure mounting Adil Rashid tore through the Lightning’s middle order to help Yorkshire seal their third win in this years Friends Life t20 tournament.
