Lightning crush the Bears by 10 wickets
The Lancashire Lightning inflicted a massive 10 wicket defeat on the Warwickshire Bears who were blown away in a totally one sided match at Edgbaston.
Faced with a victory target of just 110, the Lightning raced to victory with over seven overs to spare thanks to Tom Smith and Stephen Moore who wasted little time in completely an easy win for the visitors.
Moore (58) led the way, smashing two fours and fours sixes as he recorded an impressive half century which came from just 32 deliveries as he dispatched the Bears bowlers around the ground with ease.
With the game heading towards a quick finish, Moore (52) smashed back to back sixes off the bowling of Steffan Piolet to bring up his own 50 before he took a quick single to secure the victory for the Lightning.
Having been put into bat, the Bears suffered a torrid time with the bat after they were bowled out for just 109 at the start of the final over to leave the Lightning with a small run chase.
Stephen Parry (23-4) led the way, picking up the key wickets of Darren Maddy (16) and Jim Troughton (11) as the Bears slumped to their lowest ever t20 score.
Having lost Varun Chopra (7) and Neil Carter (1) at the end of the 2nd over after Sajid Mahmood struck twice in the space of two deliveries, William Porterfield and Maddy held the Lightning’s charge at bay with a 3rd wicket stand of 31.
The partnership was ended by Luke Proctor at the end of the 6th over as the visitors took control of the game thanks to a middle order collapse which left the Bears 71-7 at the end of the 11th over.
Chris Woakes (12) and Piolet (20) offered some much needed resistant’s as the lower order fought back to help steer the Bears past 100, to leave the Lightning facing a run chase of 110.
