Madsen helps Falcons record 12 run victory
The Derbyshire Falcons kick started their Friends Life t20 campaign with a vital 12 run victory over Yorkshire Carnegie at Headingley to remain in the hunt for a place in the quarter finals.
Wayne Madsen led the way, scoring 61 runs to help the Falcons record a total of 152-4 after the visitors had been reduced to just 15-2 at the start of the 4th over.
Despite the early loss of openers, Martin Guptill (1) and Wes Durston (5), the Falcons recovered thanks to Madsen, Chesney Hughes (32) and Garry Park (31) to leave the home side with a tricky run chase.
In reply Yorkshire never troubled the Falcons total after losing Andrew Gale (2) and Adam Lyth (17) early in the innings as the Falcons took control of the game.
Joe Root (46) and Gary Balance (46) offered hope with a 5th wicket stand of 82 but the visitors remained in control to seal their second victory in this year’s tournament.
