Dragons fight back to deny the Sharks
The Glamorgan Dragons pulled off a remarkable victory after successfully defending a total of just 137 to record a two run victory over the Sussex Sharks at the SWALEC Stadium.
Faced with a run chase of 138 the Sharks seemed on course for victory thanks to Chris Nash and Ben Brown who shared an opening stand of 78 to give the visitors the perfect start.
Brown (42) led the way smashing six boundaries during a 38 ball innings before he was bowled by Simon Jones at the start of the 12th over.
Lou Vincent (2), Murray Goodwin (10) and Luke Wells (3) quickly followed as the Dragons fought their way back into the game to set up a thrilling finish.
Although they had wickets in hand the Sharks innings went off the rails as Nash (64) and Naved-ul-Hasan (7) slide further and further behind the run rate as Robert Croft (12-0) and Gareth Rees (16-0) took advantage of the slow wicket.
With the tension mounting the Sharks went into the final over needing 13 runs but Graham Wagg bowled impressively to deny the Sharks victory as the Dragons recorded their 3rd victory in this years tournament.
Having batted first, the Dragons recorded a below par total of 137-3, thanks to some impressive bowling from Umar Gul (15-2) and Ollie Raynor (22-0) who conceded less then 6 runs over to restrict the home side.
Dragons skipper Alviro Petersen led the way, scoring 38 runs at the top of the order with partner Mark Cosgrove offering support (34) before the Sharks battled back to restruict the home side.
Jim Allenby (30) added vital runs towards the end of the innings but the Sharks stayed in control to leave them chasing a total of just 138.
