Debutant stars in victory for the Gladiators
Jack Taylor picked up four wickets and scored 38 runs on his t20 debut to help the Gloucestershire Gladiators record a surprise two wicket victory over the Somerset Sabres at the County Ground in Bristol.
The 19 year old ripped through the Sabres experienced middle order to help the Gladiators restrict the visitors to a total of just 121-9 to finish the innings with figures of 16-4.
David Payne (4-2) got the innings off to the perfect start by removing openers Peter Trego (3) and Marcus Trescothick (28) inside the power play overs before Taylor enjoyed his dream debut with the ball.
Faced with a small run chase the Gladiators lost Kevin O’Brien (4) and Kane Williamson (0) early on but Chris Taylor (18) and Taylor steered the home side towards victory despite Lewis Gregory (16-4) picking up four wickets to set up a tense finish.
Taylor’s memorable debut was ended after he was run out by Steve Kirby at the start of the penultimate over but Richard Coughtrie (9) and Muttiah Muralitharan (8) held their nerve to seal victory with just three deliveries to spare.
