Spitfires cruise to victory over the Eagles

Robert Key and Azhar Mahmood smashed quick fire half centuries to help the Kent Spitfires get their Friends Life t20 campaign back on track with an easy eight wicket win against the Essex Eagles.

Having suffered a 69 run drubbing against the defending champions at the Rose Bowl last night, the Spitfires bounced straight back thanks to Key who smashed 75 runs from just 52 deliveries before he was run out by Tim Phillips in the 18th over.

Having batted first the Eagles recorded a total of 153-8 which proved to be a below par score despite an excellent start from Mark Pettini (36) and Owais Shah (34) who shared a 2nd wicket stand of 53.

The Spitfires made light work of the run chase, passing the Eagles total with 13 balls to spare thanks to Key and Mahmood who shared a 2nd wicket stand of 97 to help the home side record their 5th victory in their years tournament.

Having been put into bat the Eagles struggled through out their innings losing wickets at regular intervals as once again their big hitting line up failed to fire after Pettini and Shah got the visitors off to a good start.

With the group stages heating up, the victory puts the Spitfires in contention for a place in the quarter finals alongside the Eagles who slip down to 5th place in the Southern Group after they slumped to their 5th defeat in this year’s tournament.
