Paul Collingwood set to play for the Scorches

The Perth Scorches have announced the signing of former England t20 World Cup winning skipper Paul Collingwood who will join the team as their second international player.

Collingwood will join South African Herschelle Gibbs, as the Scorches assemble their squad ahead of the inaugural KFC Big Bash League which gets underway in December.

Despite leading England to World Cup glory last year Collingwood was dropped from Englandís t20 and One Day squads after retiring from Test Match cricket after Englandís Ashes victory during the summer in Australia.

Perth Scorchers Head Coach Mickey Arthur said Collingwood brings outstanding qualities to the team and offers so much their our set-up.

"Paul is a brilliant leader of men who helped mould his countryís T20 side into an exciting and ruthless combination, which culminated in their triumph over Australia in the final of last yearís World T20 in Barbados," he added.

"Paul is a gutsy and determined batsman who can lift the scoring rate with his attacking stroke play, he is a proven wicket-taker with the ball and is first class in the field. I am thrilled to welcome him as our second overseas signing."

With the Player Contracting Window now open, the new teams have until 5pm on Friday, July 22nd to sign a maximum of 18 players ahead of Decemberís tournament.
