Goodwin steers stuttering Sharks to victory

A vital innings of 41 from Murray Goodwin was enough to help the stuttering Sussex Sharks over come the Glamorgan Dragons by four wickets in a tense low scoring affair at the County Ground in Hove.
The Sharks, having been set a run chase of 133, were reduced to just 32-4 before Goodwin and Chris Nash, who picked up two wickets during the Dragons innings, led the hosts recovery with a vital 5th wicket stand of 58.
Despite losing Nash (30) at the start of the 15th over, Goodwin used his years of experience to steer the hosts home with a little bit of help from Joe Gatting (20) and Ollie Raynor (4) who scored the winning boundary with just 4 balls to spare.
The victory strengthens the Sharks hopes of securing a place in the Friends Life t20 quarters finals while the Dragons hopes of remaining in contention where ended after a lacklustre display with the bat after they were restricted to a total of just 132-8.
Having chosen to bat, the visitors got off to a terrible start losing four early wickets before Stewart Walters (37) and Chris Cooke (42) gave the Dragons renewed hope thanks to a 5th wicket stand of 64.
Despite the spirited fight back the Sharks remained in control thanks to Umar Gul (3-24) who tore through the visitor’s lower order once Walters was bowled by Chris Liddle (2-23) in the 16th over.
