Stunning Pollard clinches Sabres victory
Big hitting all rounder Kieron Pollard smashed an unbeaten 47 to help the Somerset Sabres clinch their third straight appearance in the Friends Life t20 Finals Day thanks to a six wicket victory against the Nottinghamshire Outlaws.
Faced with a victory target of 170 the Sabres looked in danger of falling short after they had slipped to just 106-4 at the end of the 15th over before Pollard steered the visitors to victory.
The West Indian international smashed two boundaries and four sixes during a 5th wicket stand of 66 with Jos Buttler (34), to help the Sabres past the Outlaws total with five balls to spare.
Before Pollardís contribution the Outlaws looked in complete control despite a spirited innings from Craig Kieswetter (49) after the early lose of Marcus Trescothick (3) in the third over.
Having batted first the Outlaws were indebted to Andrew Hales (78) who lead the host depleted attack which was missing David Hussey and Tamin Iqbal who were both unavailable because of international duty.
Hales dispatched six boundaries and three sixes to help the Outlaws record a total of 169-5 with support coming from Samit Patel (28) and skipper Chris Read (23).
